Dr. Herman Jones III is our Pro Staff and avid outdoorsman is affectionately known by Urban American Out-doors fans as “Dr. Outdoors” He received his BA in Biology from Stanford University and his M.D. from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee in 1977. Dr. Jones
has an extensive background in surgery and emer-gency medicine and had worked with the Hyperbaric Unit at Jo Ellen Smith Medical Center in New Orleans. He was also the director of the Emergency Department at the United Medical Center.

Dr. Jones was certified at the NOAA Physicians’ Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine in Miami. He had taught hyperbaric observer courses as well as lecturing to divers and EMT’s at industrial sites. Dr. Jones loves hunting, fishing, cooking, and works just as hard as he plays. He was very much one of our heroes in the Katrina Hurricane as well as Gustav remaining to do what he does best, save lives. Dr. Jones goes on many of our excursions and writes our outdoors medical news.
